Position in the Industry SSI is the largest school-based training agency in the world. As a school based agency, SSI requires all dive leaders to affiliate with an SSI Authorized Dealer. This assures that instructors provide quality training, adhere to training standards and conduct themselves professionally. SSI is the only training agency that monitors instructors on-site via an effective quality assurance program such as this. Since 1970, SSI has believed that all stakeholders in the industry (divers, manufacturers, agencies, retailers, resorts and media) should cooperate to make our sport more available to the public. As well as being a leader in the scuba industry, SSI was one of the founding members of the Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC), and was crucial in the development of the Universal Referral Program (URP). SSI also co-developed the Passport Diver Program in conjunction with NAUI.
